The new General manager of Canadians, Marc Bergevin, must look outside of Chicago to find his head coach.
Rumors that the current coach of the Blackhawks, Joel Quenneville, could be a candidate were nullified, Monday.
By early evening, Quenneville has himself made a public appearance to set the record straight and confirmed he would be back behind the bench of the Blackhawks next season.
Earlier, the Chief Hawks, Stan Bowman, had told the Chicago Tribune that he did not comment on rumors. He however suggested that Quenneville – which is still under contract with the Hawks for the next two seasons – would be back with the team next season.
The newspaper argued that Quenneville has had disagreements with management this season, when the director of player development, Barry Smith, found himself on the ice to work with the power play unit that was defective.

Smith continued to work until the playoffs, but did not travel with the team after a confrontation between Quenneville and Staff have been reported.
Rumors about the departure of Quenneville had intensified when Bergevin became the CEO of the Canadian last week

Mike Smith has pushed the number of attacks from the Chicago Blackhawks until his teammates wake up in the third period and Phoenix Coyotes eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks with a 4-0 victory on Monday.
Dave Tippett’s men win the series in six games. The previous five had required the holding of an extension period.
The Coyotes have won a first-round series in the West for the first time since they moved to Phoenix in 1996-97. This concession has also removed the honors of a first series since 1987, since she was known as the Winnipeg Jets.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson opened the scoring at 13:14 of the second period only the sixth shot of the Coyotes. Smith then had already blocked 22.
Gilbert Brule, Kyle Chipchura Antoine Vermette and confirmed the victory of Phoenix in the third. Smith finished with 39 saves.
The Coyotes will face the Nashville Predators in the second round.

Smith was solid throughout the evening, and sometimes spectacular, especially early in the game to record his first shutout in the playoffs. He made 229 stops over the six games of this series.
The Hawks dominated 39-20 advantage in shots on goal, but after winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, troopers from Joel Quenneville were eliminated for the second straight year in the first round in the West.
The slap shot from the slot Ekman-Larsson on the power play, while we hid the view of the Hawks goalie Corey Crawford, hit the target in the second.
Martin Hanzal, who made a comeback after missing three games, was the one who obstructed the view for the Coyotes, who scored on their sixth shot of the match and enjoyed a numerical superiority in response to a penalty for interference against the Hawks captain Jonathan Toews. The Blackhawks had fired 22 shots at the net when the Coyotes opened the scoring, but Smith was downright defiant.
Then, Brule accepted a nice pass from behind the net Chipchura early in the third period to widen the gap to two goals.
The Blackhawks came from behind four times in the third period in this series to tie, but not this time as Smith, a watchdog of six feet, four inches and 218 pounds, saw all the shots that were unchecked in his direction.

The Blackhawks scored the tying goal in the third period for the fourth time during this series. This time Nick Leddy, however, marked an earlier, mid-way commitment.
The purpose of Toews helped end the game, the fifth in a row to be decided in overtime, a first since 1951. In this game, the attacker beat Mike Smith on the side of the stick so to allow the Blackhawks advance to reduce the Coyotes to 3-2 in this series.
Last year Chicago had filled a delay of 3-0 and thus forced the submission of a seventh game against Vancouver in the second round of the playoffs. This time the team will have the opportunity to create equality in his duel with Phoenix on Monday night at home.

The league suspended the rugged winger with the Phoenix Coyotes for 25 games following a violent body check that injured the Chicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa.
“I care primarily to the health of Marian Hossa and I hope he can return to play soon. I sincerely regret for the injury, “Torres said in a statement.
“Due to the severity of the sentence, I’ll take a few days to decide if I will appeal the decision on appeal,” he added.
The announcement came just hours before the Coyotes do not get an opportunity to eliminate the Blackhawks in Game No. 5 of the first-round series in the Western Conference.
By Saturday afternoon, the Chief Coyotes GM Don Maloney said in a statement that he accepted the verdict of Shanahan.

“The decision is very critical for our organization and Raffi. Raffi is robust and plays physical, and yet this body checking has transgressed the limits which decides what is acceptable in our sport today. We hope that Marian Hossa heal quickly and completely, since we all prefer to see him perform (on ice). The organization accepts the decision of the NHL and should now focus on the game tonight (Saturday). ”
Torres skates left the ice when he applied a stern Hossa in check during the game No. 3 on Tuesday night, sending the Blackhawks winger violently against the ice. Hossa left the ice on a stretcher and did not return to the game since.
If the 25-game suspension are not purged during the playoffs – the Coyotes will play four consecutive rounds of seven games to get there – they will be carried over into the next regular season. In this case, Torres could not play any exhibition game.
As a repeat offender, Torres may have to pay U.S. $ 21 341 for each regular season game he would miss. Torres has served the first game suspension Thursday as he waited to attend a hearing Friday in the company of a disciplinarian of the NHL Brendan Shanahan.
Shanahan said in a statement Saturday that Torres had violated three regulations: obstruction, assault and illegal body check to the head. Shanahan added that two factors also weighed in the balance when determining the duration of the suspension – “violent and dangerous nature of the defeat that caused a severe injury” and that Torres’ disciplinary record has expanded for acts similar to this one, including two this season. ”
The suspension of Torres was the most severe awarded by Shanahan, who has already imposed a suspension of 13 games (five preparations, eight regular) to advocate for the Columbus Blue Jackets James Wisniewski in September.
This suspension is the longest since the one imposed on attacking New York Islanders Chris Simon, who was sentenced to 30 game suspension after crushing the ankle of Jarkko Ruutu in December 2007. Simon also missed 25 games in March 2007 to have dealt a powerful blow from a stick in the player’s head of the New York Rangers Ryan Hollweg.
The Flyers forward Jesse Boulerice of Philadelphia has also served a suspension of 25 games for cross-checking carried to the face of Ryan Kesler in October 2007.
For Torres, it was his third suspension following a hit dubious past 13 months.
He scored a goal and an assist, displaying a passing average ice time of 19 minutes for the Coyotes during the first three games of the series.
The news quickly made the rounds of the league by Saturday morning.
“I think the NHL is sick of it,” commented head coach of the St. Louis Blues Ken Hitchcock. “I think they were tired of bodychecks type predator. ”

Boedker capped the defenseman Nick Leddy and pushed the puck past goalie Corey Crawford at 2:15 of the extra period. Both teams needed an overtime in all four games of the series to determine a winner.

The No. 5 match will be held Saturday in Arizona.

Shane Doan and Taylor Pyatt gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead by touching the target in just 44 seconds into the third period. Brendan Morrison, who was playing his first game in the series, then cut the lead to 2-1.

Doan has tapped the puck to Johnny Oduya, and then presented to Ray Whitney. Doan took advantage of back to back of the net at 7:03 of the third period. Pyatt then enjoyed a nice pass from Antoine Vermette to double the advance of his.

Morrison has revived the crowd at United Center at 10:25 with a slap shot that appeared to deflect the stick of a player before the Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith surprised the glove side.

Michael Frolik has forced the introduction of overtime with 1:26 to go, while the Blackhawks were replaced by Crawford an extra attacker.

The Blackhawks had to make do without star striker Marian Hossa, who left the game No. 3 on a stretcher after being plated in the head by Raffi Torres Coyotes. Torres was suspended indefinitely by the NHL.

Boedker scored a difficult angle by bringing to the right of Corey Crawford.
Rostislav Klesla and Ray Whitney scored for the Coyotes in regulation, while Andrew Brunette and Michael Frolic did the same for the Hawks.
The fourth match will be held Thursday evening, again at the United Center.
The Hawks played the majority of the match without Marian Hossa, the team’s leading scorer during the regular season. The Czech left on a stretcher in the first period, having been hit hard by Raffi Torres.
Hossa was near the boards at center ice and had just been turned, following a pass, when Torres was violently struck in the shoulder.
Hossa remained lying on the ice for about five minutes, receiving care from medical staff, before leaving on a stretcher.

The chief doctor of the Blackhawks, Michael Terry, said that Hossa left the hospital after tests have shown encouraging results, and it was closely monitoring his condition at home. The Hawks expect a full recovery, according to a time yet to be established.
Torres said he hoped that Hossa was doing well but on the stroke in question, he said it was a hockey game.

The Coyotes were able to apply pressure at the right time, Thursday, at least often enough to sign a 3-2 win in overtime, giving them a 1-0 lead in their first round series against Chicago.

The series could well be won by the Hawks or that Phoenix will dictate the tempo. Thursday, the Coyotes have ignored a slow start to their supporters, dressed in white, to score twice in the second period, after seeing the Hawks score the first goal of the series in the first period.

After that Chicago has made 2-2 with 15 seconds left in the third period, the Coyotes have forced the Hawks in overtime to clear often, just to have a break. Martin Hanzal settled the debate at 9:29, deflecting a shot from Adrian Aucoin.

“Most teams are pressuring to five players, to give himself the best chance of countering the line passes, said Aucoin. As defenders, you never want to create your own turnaround area, then we must identify or find enough space to clear the zone. We have been tough to keep them in their area, and it allowed us to continue to put pressure. ”

Coyotes players are rarely out of position, which makes it difficult for opponents when it comes time to clear. The Hawks have often lost the disk for the benefit of the Coyotes and they had good scoring chances Thursday.

“That’s what it boils down to: keep the puck out of our zone and not commit turnovers,” said defenseman Duncan Keith, Blackhawks.

The second match will be held Saturday night, again in Phoenix. The Coyotes, champions of the Pacific Division, began the playoffs with the best momentum in the West: they won their last five regular-season games, including three times in front of their fans.
