The new General manager of Canadians, Marc Bergevin, must look outside of Chicago to find his head coach.
Rumors that the current coach of the Blackhawks, Joel Quenneville, could be a candidate were nullified, Monday.
By early evening, Quenneville has himself made a public appearance to set the record straight and confirmed he would be back behind the bench of the Blackhawks next season.
Earlier, the Chief Hawks, Stan Bowman, had told the Chicago Tribune that he did not comment on rumors. He however suggested that Quenneville – which is still under contract with the Hawks for the next two seasons – would be back with the team next season.
The newspaper argued that Quenneville has had disagreements with management this season, when the director of player development, Barry Smith, found himself on the ice to work with the power play unit that was defective.

Smith continued to work until the playoffs, but did not travel with the team after a confrontation between Quenneville and Staff have been reported.

Hawks Fire Mike Haviland

Joel Quenneville is still working at the Chicago Blackhawks, but it did not prevent the team to sack his deputy, Mike Haviland.
The team made the announcement in a statement late afternoon.
Haviland spent four seasons behind the bench in the shoes of Hawks assistant. He had been appointed to the post July 23, 2008. Before joining the Blackhawks coaching staff, it was as head coach with a subsidiary of Norfolk in the AHL.

Mike Smith has pushed the number of attacks from the Chicago Blackhawks until his teammates wake up in the third period and Phoenix Coyotes eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks with a 4-0 victory on Monday.

Captain Toews Nets One In Ot For The Win

A goal by Jonathan Toews at 2:44 of overtime allowed the Chicago Blackhawks avoided elimination with a 2-1 win at the expense of the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.
The Blackhawks scored the tying goal in the third period for the fourth time during this series. This time Nick Leddy, however, marked an earlier, mid-way commitment.
The purpose of Toews helped end the game, the fifth in a row to be decided in overtime, a first since 1951. In this game, the attacker beat Mike Smith on the side of the stick so to allow the Blackhawks advance to reduce the Coyotes to 3-2 in this series.
Last year Chicago had filled a delay of 3-0 and thus forced the submission of a seventh game against Vancouver in the second round of the playoffs. This time the team will have the opportunity to create equality in his duel with Phoenix on Monday night at home.

25 Games Suspension For Torres

The ax fell in the NHL on Raffi Torres.
The league suspended the rugged winger with the Phoenix Coyotes for 25 games following a violent body check that injured the Chicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa.
“I care primarily to the health of Marian Hossa and I hope he can return to play soon. I sincerely regret for the injury, “Torres said in a statement.
“Due to the severity of the sentence, I’ll take a few days to decide if I will appeal the decision on appeal,” he added.
The announcement came just hours before the Coyotes do not get an opportunity to eliminate the Blackhawks in Game No. 5 of the first-round series in the Western Conference.
By Saturday afternoon, the Chief Coyotes GM Don Maloney said in a statement that he accepted the verdict of Shanahan.

“The decision is very critical for our organization and Raffi. Raffi is robust and plays physical, and yet this body checking has transgressed the limits which decides what is acceptable in our sport today. We hope that Marian Hossa heal quickly and completely, since we all prefer to see him perform (on ice). The organization accepts the decision of the NHL and should now focus on the game tonight (Saturday). ”
Torres skates left the ice when he applied a stern Hossa in check during the game No. 3 on Tuesday night, sending the Blackhawks winger violently against the ice. Hossa left the ice on a stretcher and did not return to the game since.

This suspension is the longest since the one imposed on attacking New York Islanders Chris Simon, who was sentenced to 30 game suspension after crushing the ankle of Jarkko Ruutu in December 2007. Simon also missed 25 games in March 2007 to have dealt a powerful blow from a stick in the player’s head of the New York Rangers Ryan Hollweg.
The Flyers forward Jesse Boulerice of Philadelphia has also served a suspension of 25 games for cross-checking carried to the face of Ryan Kesler in October 2007.
For Torres, it was his third suspension following a hit dubious past 13 months.
He scored a goal and an assist, displaying a passing average ice time of 19 minutes for the Coyotes during the first three games of the series.
The news quickly made the rounds of the league by Saturday morning.
“I think the NHL is sick of it,” commented head coach of the St. Louis Blues Ken Hitchcock. “I think they were tired of bodychecks type predator. ”

Mikkel Boedker scored in overtime in a second straight game and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Thursday to take a 3-1 lead and their first-round series.

Boedker capped the defenseman Nick Leddy and pushed the puck past goalie Corey Crawford at 2:15 of the extra period. Both teams needed an overtime in all four games of the series to determine a winner.

The No. 5 match will be held Saturday in Arizona.

Shane Doan and Taylor Pyatt gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead by touching the target in just 44 seconds into the third period. Brendan Morrison, who was playing his first game in the series, then cut the lead to 2-1.

Doan has tapped the puck to Johnny Oduya, and then presented to Ray Whitney. Doan took advantage of back to back of the net at 7:03 of the third period. Pyatt then enjoyed a nice pass from Antoine Vermette to double the advance of his.

Mikkel Boedker scored at 13:15 into overtime and the Phoenix Coyotes were right from the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Tuesday, thus taking the 2-1 lead in this first round series in the West.

The Hawks played the majority of the match without Marian Hossa, the team’s leading scorer during the regular season. The Czech left on a stretcher in the first period, having been hit hard by Raffi Torres.
Hossa was near the boards at center ice and had just been turned, following a pass, when Torres was violently struck in the shoulder.
Hossa remained lying on the ice for about five minutes, receiving care from medical staff, before leaving on a stretcher.

The chief doctor of the Blackhawks, Michael Terry, said that Hossa left the hospital after tests have shown encouraging results, and it was closely monitoring his condition at home. The Hawks expect a full recovery, according to a time yet to be established.
Torres said he hoped that Hossa was doing well but on the stroke in question, he said it was a hockey game.

Bryan Bickell scored his second goal of the game at 11:36 of overtime, Saturday, and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 after scoring in the final moments of regulation time in a second consecutive game.

Phoenix won the first half 3-2 in overtime after allowing a goal to Brent Seabrook with 14 seconds left in the third period. Patrick Sharp has again the blow to the Coyotes with even less time on the clock, Saturday, redirecting a shot from Patrick Kane while he remained only five seconds to play.

This time the Blackhawks fared better with Bickell, who beat Mike Smith while he was stationed between the two faceoff circles Viktor Stalberg had just intercepted a pass from Rostislav Klesla so to keep the puck Coyotes in the area.

The Coyotes were able to apply pressure at the right time, Thursday, at least often enough to sign a 3-2 win in overtime, giving them a 1-0 lead in their first round series against Chicago.

The series could well be won by the Hawks or that Phoenix will dictate the tempo. Thursday, the Coyotes have ignored a slow start to their supporters, dressed in white, to score twice in the second period, after seeing the Hawks score the first goal of the series in the first period.

After that Chicago has made 2-2 with 15 seconds left in the third period, the Coyotes have forced the Hawks in overtime to clear often, just to have a break. Martin Hanzal settled the debate at 9:29, deflecting a shot from Adrian Aucoin.

“Most teams are pressuring to five players, to give himself the best chance of countering the line passes, said Aucoin.
