Taylor Pyatt and Antoine Vermette had defeated Crawford in the second period to give the Coyotes ahead.

Jonathan Toews, captain of the Hawks, welcomed his return to action by finding the back of the net in the fifth minute of the match. His backhand has eluded the vigilance of Mike Smith.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Chicago captain Jonathan Toews is expected to play in the opening game of the Blackhawks’ playoff series against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night.
Toews missed the final 22 games of the regular season because of a concussion, but has been practicing with the team this week in preparation for the playoffs.

Toews said he felt no concussion-like symptoms at practice Wednesday at Phoenix’s Jobing.com Arena, though a decision about whether he’ll play isn’t expected to be made until Thursday.
A superb two-way player, Toews had 29 goals and 28 assists in 59 games this season, and is expected to give the Blackhawks a big lift against the defense-oriented Coyotes. [Continue reading ...]

Coming in as the 8 seed in the Western this year was disappointing to most Chicago Blackhawks fans and it was certainly not as well as the players expected to do, but as one should say about any playoff team – at least they made it. Every top US online casino and sports book might be stacking the lines against Chicago on a nightly basis, and every newscaster might be writing them off after every loss, but the Blackhawks, with their backs against the wall, refuse to go down without a fight.

In their 7-2 rout over the Vancouver Canucks, keeping Chicago from the proverbial sweep and bringing the series to an at-least-more-manageable 3-1, there is a shimmer of hope here, and that’s something everyone hopes the Blackhawks can cling to as game 5 of the series Thursday night soon approaches.

The obvious hero of last night’s game, Dave Bolland, did not suddenly pick up a cape and decide to put it on. He has been more than eager to fill the role of the ‘Hawks’ Superman most of this season, but has suffered long and hard with injury.

For the defending Stanley Cup Champions, falling 3-0 was a little more than shocking. No one outside of Chicagoans was rallying for a repeat; most of the sporting world had given up on the Blackhawks before midseason. But to go down three in a row was something none could have anticipated.

Bolland was obviously the spark Chicago needed to contend. He had returned to the ice after missing 17 games with a concussion, and his impact on the team was certainly immediate, scoring one goal and giving an assist on three others.

The Canucks are talking big, with their goalie, Roberto Luongo, citing that Bolland is “not a guy who is going to change the series.” But the Blackhaws and Bolland may beg to differ.

It is rare in sports that any team is able to come back down 3-0 in a series. The most famous instance of a comeback was in 2004, in MLB, no less, as the Boston Red Sox came back down 3-0 vs. the New York Yankees.

The Blackhawks do not need to watch tape of Boston to know it’s possible, however. Bolland’s inspired return and the team’s motivated play should be all they need to turn this into a series.

In terms of Chicago actually stretching it to 7, much less winning the series on the road, you won’t find any buyers save Windy City faithful. Sports books are giving better odds to hit the progressive jackpot playing online slots. The so-called “expert” commentators are talking like Chicago shouldn’t even step onto the ice Thursday. And while it may sound silly, maybe that’s exactly what Chicago needs – an outside-induced chip on their shoulder, birthed of no faith and no hope and no expectations.

It is statistically unlikely that the Blackhawks can win, but hockey doesn’t run on odds. So buckle up, Vancouver. You have a fight coming.

Marian Hossa finally won the Stanley Cup after a third straight attempt. The 2010 Stanley Cup finals was actually the third time that he had come this close to winning the Cup, and this time he succeeded. In 2008, he played with the Pittsburgh Penguins whom lost to the Detroit Red Wings, and then the next year with the Detroit Red Wings who lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Chicago Blackhawks ended their 49 year Cup drought by capturing their first Stanley Cup since 1961 and the fourth in Blackhawks franchise history when Patrick Kane scored the dramatic Over Time winning goal in a game six win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Kane scored the dramatic winning goal at 4:06 mark of the first over time. The glory moment was sweet redemption for the 21 year old American winger after losing the Olympic final game to Canada earlier in February. Kane’s goal, was similar to that of Sidney Crosby’s winning shot for Team Canada. Jonathan Toews was the 2010 Conn Smythe winner.

Will the Toronto Maple Leafs ever end thier Stanley Cup drought? – Who cares!

The Chicago Blackhawks have advanced to the 2010 Western Conference Finals with a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night at GM Place. The victory secured a 4-games-to-2 series win over the Canucks, and a meeting with the San Jose Sharks in the Conference Finals. San Jose will host Games 1 and 2, with dates and times to be determined.

Combined with last season, the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs marks the first time since 1989 and 1990 that Chicago has advanced to the Conference Finals in back-to-back seasons. The Western Conference Finals will be the first-ever postseason meeting between the Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks.

The Blackhawks and Sharks finished as the top two teams in the Western Conference during the 2009-10 regular-season. Chicago won three of the four meetings with San Jose during the campaign, earning a 4-3 overtime win on Nov. 15 at the United Center, and 7-2 and 4-3 (OT) victories at HP Pavilion. San Jose defeated the Blackhawks 3-2 on Dec. 22 in Chicago.
